How / when did you discover Etsy? Back in April 2007, I was floating about and admiring all the beautiful handmade goodies - I must admit I was quite the "window-shopper" for some time until I opened my store for selling in March 2008 - I haven't looked back since then!
Tell us a bit about yourself:I work in fashion retail therefore I am constantly surrounded by the newest trends and fabrics and styles. I have an addiction to buying fabric - I have about 4 boxes full now, and it keeps growing. My original ideas spawn from my pen-meets-paper days, but with everything being as hectic as it is now, I find it hard to cram in arty-days! I have a dog who is my doting lover and a cat who is the model-diva in some of my listings. I am sucker for raspberry twist lollies and cups of tea - give me 2 cups of tea to start my day!
What kind of products do you create? My label includes fabric button jewellery in the form of - earrings, brooches, pendants, hairslides and rings; laser cut wooden bird and animal jewellery in pendants and brooches; bird rings which are laser cut from acrylic perspex.
Favourite Mediums:Fabric and Tasmanian Myrtle Wood
Favouite Artist(s):Audrey Kawasaki (love wood!) Amy Sol and Kelly Smith (a fellow Tasmanian!)
Favourite Colour(s)?:Marigold, chocolate, cranberry and olive.
Favourite Author(s)?:Stephanie Myer
Sources of Inspiration:The changing of seasons and the colours it brings with it - particularly autumn. "Curvy" book which is full of insanely talented female artists. "Yen" and "Frankie" magazines, such a good read. Good music, which is a broad thing, purely because my tastes are broad - lately FEVER RAY has been quite the inspiration for me!
Goals for your Etsy shop and yourself as an artist:Repeat customers. That is all I want really, for people to be so happy with their purchase that they return to buy more! As for me being an artist, my goal is to find a good balance where I can get back to drawing and unleashing that part of my artistic mind.
Achievements obtained through your art experiences:Featured on the MADISON MAGAZINE online blog, Ladyhawke (singer) owns a wooden piece of mine, landing so many homes (stockists) for my label in the past 10 months and just the general way that "That Vintage" has exploded into the flock of excited birds that it is!
Your top 3 favorite Etsy shops(besides your own!):http://studiohalo.etsy.comhttp://kjsdesign.etsy.comhttp://FoxAndClover.etsy.com
Any Advice for your fellow Etsians?Keep renewing items! Stick it out - the first few months are very slow, but the more you blog, get into chat rooms, the more your renew and the more tags you add in the listings - the more likely you'll score some sales. Oh and photographs. PLEASE (ahh!) make sure your photographs are top knotch as they are the things that are going to SELL your items!!!
Tell me a random fact about yourself!:I chew gum when cutting up onions to stop my eyes from watering. True.
